John W. “Jack” Gass, 85, of Strasburg and formerly of Shamokin, died at LGH on Thursday, July 9, 2010 following a brief illness. Jack was the companion of Marjorie Bartone. He was graduated from Shamokin High School and Susquehanna University and served in the US Navy during WWII. Jack worked as an Insurance Claims Adjuster for the former Educators Mutual Insurance Company. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #34, Lancaster, Lambert Lodge #476 F. &. A. M., Lancaster, Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R. and the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America. Jack was an avid Penn State and PHILLIES fan. Born in Coal Township, Jack was the son of the late Harvey L. and Stella (Cook) Gass. In addition to Marjorie, her children and grandchildren, Jack is survived by a sister, Irene M. Schankweiler of Middletown, a nephew, great-nieces and nephews.

Robert L. “Bob” Gribble, 76, of Ronks, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the husband of JoAnn (Hoffecker) Gribble for over 57 years. VIEWING: Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 6 until 8 PM in the Bachman Funeral Home, 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA, and Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 10 until 11 AM in the Salem Evangelical Reformed Church, Hellers, 2555 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. John R. Groff, 76, of Cherry Hill Road, Ronks, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 22, 2010. He was the husband of the late Jean (Fix) Groff, who died in 2005. John was raised on his family’s farm in Paradise Township which, until recently, had only been farmed by the Groff family. He retired from the Electronic Test Equipment Manufacturing Company, Lancaster. He was an avid fan of Model Railroading and constructing models of airplanes and famous buildings. He also enjoyed collecting railroad memorabilia and was a member of the National Railway Historical Society. John was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg. He had an unusual affection for dogs and cats. Born in Lancaster, John was the son of the late John E. and Serena (Rittenhouse) Groff. He is survived by cousins and many friends and neighbors. W. Floyd Kametz, 83, of Strasburg, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. He was the husband of Lucille M. (Wert) Kametz for over 63 years. Floyd farmed for many years and drove school bus for Pequea Valley School District. Floyd later operated a trucking business, hauling milk for New Holland Creamery and other agricultural products and equipment for area farmers. He enjoyed woodworking, which became a business. He retired from the former Sperry New Holland. Floyd was a Past President of Pennsylvania Eastern Milk Producers. Born in Upper Leacock Township, Floyd was the son of the late Joseph, Sr., and Annie (Walton) Kametz. Floyd is also survived by a son, Kenneth F. married to Cynthia Kametz of Lancaster, a daughter, Barbara A. Kametz-Folker married to John R. Folker of Millersville and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica L. Eshleman, three brothers, Harry, Richard and Joseph, Jr. and a sister, H. Frances Buohl. Lester J. LeFevre, 79, of Strasburg Township, went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2010. He was the husband of Shirley (Showers) LeFevre for over 57 years. Born in Salunga, he was the son of the late Merle and Bertha (Weber) LeFevre. Les is also survived by two sons, Jeff married to Vickie LeFevre of Newport, PA, Jay C. married to Linda LeFevre of Galeton, CO; three daughters, Julie married to John Lefever of Lancaster, Jeanie LeFevre-Glick married to Dean Glick of Bird-In-Hand and Jill married to Don Weidman of Lancaster, 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother, Larry married to Tess Zook of New Providence. Les was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin LeFevre, two brothers, Laverne Zook and William Zook and a sister, Shirley Scarpone.

Janet Nickel Miller was called to her heavenly home on July 11, 2010. The light of God shined through Janet all the days of a life she so generously shared with all she knew. Janet loved the Lord and she carried her love for the Holy Spirit in her heart during her journey of faith. Janet lived life to the fullest and had a great love for family and friends. Janet can best be described in four words: loyal, generous, humorous and loving. Janet was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter-in-law, and sister-in-law. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Jack B. Miller and her devoted sons, Michael Young, Chase Miller and Hunter Miller. On June 22nd, Janet was blessed with the birth of her first grandchild, Naomi Jane Young. Janet's spirit will shine on through her sons and lovely granddaughter. Janet is also survived by her devoted and loving parents, Carl and Jeanette Nickel, her brothers, C. Joseph Nickel, Andrew Nickel, her beautiful daughter-in-law, Grace Young and her lovely sisters-in-law, Barbara Nickel and Catherine Nickel. Janet was always grateful for the love and support of many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Her family extends special thanks to the kind and caring staff of Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy Unit, and the staff of the trauma-neuro unit at LGH.

Richard M. Weaver, 80, of Leola, died at Ephrata Community Hospital on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. He was the husband of A. Elizabeth (Lefever) Weaver. Born in Strasburg, Richard was the son of the late Marvin C. and Claire (Weaver) Weaver. He is also survived by two sons, John W. married to Connie Weaver of Lititz, Bruce E. married to Christine Weaver of Reading, two daughters, Donna L. married to Jerry Beard of Timonium, MD, and Joyce E. married to Wayne Stoltzfus of Lititz, five grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and two sisters, Esther Weaver and Verna Gaul, both of Lancaster.
