Funeral pre-arrangements online

from The Reporter, Jan. 2001

The Council of Better Business Bureaus is suggesting that before purchasing a prepaid funeral or burial plan, consumers should compare prices, review the plan carefully, visit the facility instead of depending on the good faith of the person selling the plan, and investigate the seller's reputation. A news release from the Council also advises caution with "abuses" involving pre-need including lack of portability and cancellation penalties, "unexpected" expenses from items not covered in the plan, and high pressure sales tactics.

Pre-need planning is a way to relieve your surviving spouse or other family members from emotional and financial burden.

Pre-need planning can assure an individual that the arrangements will follow their personal wishes.

Advanced care facilities will usually recommend that funeral arrangments be made, and paid for, in advance.

It is important to remember that: according to PA law, only a licensed funeral director may sell funeral services. If you buy funeral merchandise, like a casket, vault or burial plot, from someone other than a licensed funeral director, you will still need the services of a funeral director.
